2023 World Juniors: Quarterfinal Field Set, USA To Take On Germany

The U.S. will take on Germany as part of the 2023 World Junior Championship quarterfinals, which are set for Monday.

MONCTON, New Brunswick -- At the conclusion of the preliminary round, Czechia and the United States came out as the top seeds in Groups A and B, respectively. Upon the conclusion of Canada's 5-1 win over Sweden, the entire quarterfinal field has been set. 

The quarterfinals will be staged Monday in both Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Moncton, New Brunswick. 

Czechia, which won Group A thanks in large part to its opening-day win over Canada, will take on Switzerland, who finished fourth in Group B despite winning three of its four games, albeit all of those wins were outside of regulation. By securing just two points for each win, the Swiss fell behind the rest of the group.

The United States, which collected a 6-2 win over Finland to secure first place in Group B, will meet Germany, which notched its lone win over Austria in Group A.

Sweden and Finland will renew their rivalry int he quarterfinals after each failed to win its last game of the preliminary round. Finland finished second in Group B behind the U.S., while Sweden dropped from first in their group to third on the final day of the preliminary round thanks to Czechia's win and their loss to Canada.

Finally, host Canada will meet a Slovakia team that upset the U.S., beat Latvia and fell just short of winning the group after losing to Switzerland in a shootout Saturday. The Canadians managed to secure second place in Group A by beating Sweden in regulation in the final game of the preliminary round.

The games will air on NHL Network in the U.S. and TSN in Canada.

Finland vs. Sweden -- 11 a.m. ET (Moncton)

Czechia vs. Swizerland -- 2:30 p.m. ET (Halifax)

USA vs. Germany -- 4 p.m. ET (Moncton)

Canada vs. Slovakia -- 6:30 p.m. ET (Halifax)
