May 7 is the date to circle on your calendar if you’re wondering which NHL team will see their fortunes change with the opportunity to select consensus No. 1 Macklin Celebrini at the NHL Draft.

The NHL announced Friday that the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery will be held Tuesday, May 7 at the NHL Network studios in Secaucus, N.J. 

The lottery includes the 14 teams that did not make the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2024.

Who has the best odds of landing the No. 1 NHL Draft Pick?

The San Jose Sharks, by virtue of finishing last in the NHL during the 2023-24 regular season have the best odds to secure the No. 1 pick in the NHL Draft. Here’s the full list of odds:


* - If Pittsburgh’s pick lands in the top 10, they will have the option of letting the San Jose Sharks take their 2025 NHL Draft first-round pick. If it is not in the top 10, San Jose will get the pick this year.

There are two lottery draws, with a team’s chances increasing proportionately of moving up to the No. 2 pick in the second drawing.

Who is the projected No. 1 pick for the 2024 NHL Draft?

Macklin Celebrini is projected by FloHockey NHL Draft analyst Chris Peters to go first overall in the 2024 NHL Draft. Celebrini became the youngest player to win the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey’s top player after producing 64 points in 38 games for Boston University.

The 17-year-old Vancouver native has been widely considered the No. 1 talent in his draft class for the last two seasons. He played for the USHL’s Chicago Steel as a 16-year-old and became the league’s Rookie, Forward and Player of the Year.

What Channel Is The 2024 NHL Draft Lottery On?

ESPN will broadcast the NHL Draft Lottery in the United States, while Sportsnet and TVA will broadcast the event in Canada in English and French, respectively.

The time of the broadcast will be announced at a later date.
